Domaine Gresser, Brandhof Muscat D'Alsace, 2007
I really appreciate how a good sommelier can make an excellent dinner even more memorable. At a previous (and dare I say excellent) dining experience at Tom Aikens the sommelier recommended Rémy Gresser's Brandhof Muscat with fish.
While searching for a UK source for this wine I learned that I am apparently gifted with a special understanding of this kind of wine (or perhaps wine in general), as the wine merchant wrote to me: "The Muscat is essentially a restaurant wine, very few people understand dry Muscat, like you."
Well then, what is it all about? Elderflower, actually. Both nose and mouth give you a clean, fresh sensation of elderflower, combined with a little honey and peaches. A wine that feels very light and almost evaporates from the glass. An excellent summer wine and also great with fish (at least lighter fish with fruit-based sauces).

Flower power
I'm beginning to get quite a taste for muscats, and this one with it's beautiful floral nose was lovely. Not only is it good with fish, but it would also be good on it's own or with any light summer food, such as salads. Great that I have three bottles of it waiting under my desk!
