With regards to a vine to represent the English Wine community, I feel either Madeleine Angevine 7672 or Madeleine Sylvaner should "fly the flag" as opposed to Bacchus. Since their inception and the original trials by Barrington-Brock during the early revival of the English Wine Industry they have been a positive influence on the quality of English Wines. Even now, with the plethora of varieties suitable to the English climate, many producers still support these varieties, and their versatility is widely acknowleged... from the fresh citrus bite of an early harvested Madeleine, to the lush peach and apricot overtones of the later harvested wines.
